MARTIN YUSON

President

Martin Yuson first got involved with Family Promise SGV through St. Andrew Catholic Church, where he is a parishioner and member of the Peace and Social Justice Ministry. He and his wife, Aura, live in Northwest Pasadena, a community where they have been actively involved over the past two decades. Martin is an attorney specializing in healthcare-related issues.

JOE GARDNER
CHAIR, Community Relations Committee

Joe Gardner retired in December 2011 as a police sergeant from the City of Santa Monica, where he served for 27 years as a motorcycle traffic officer, county drug task force investigator for LAIMPACT, and founding member of the Homeless Liaison Program. Joe is president of Meals On Wheels, Industry, where he oversees the delivery of meals to residents in West Covina and the San Gabriel Valley. He is also a Commissioner for the Los Angeles County Probation Department, serving residents of the 5th District. In addition, Joe is affiliated with Cory’s Kitchen (a food bank) and Toys for Tots. Nominated twice for the State Assembly, Joe clearly cares for his community and works hard to improve it.

Judy joined the FPSGV Board in March 2015 after volunteering for two years with her church. She says she’s drawn to FPʼs creativity — and how it lets faith communities live their values and theology in practical ways as the work to connect families with housing, meals, and resource linkage. On the Board, her roles include recruiting new members and helping management with governance and human resources matters.

Leadership

Xochitl Hernández
Executive Director

Xochitl is a nonprofit leader who is passionate about collaborating with key stakeholders to bring resources to distressed communities. She believes that as a human community, we are responsible for the well being of one another, and that through collaboration and sharing of resources, change can be effected to improve the lives and conditions of communities at large.

Xochitl has over 15 years’ experience in the for-profit and nonprofit industries, and has worked at organizations including the Latin Business Association, the University of San Diego, Dermalogica, Prevencion y Recaste, and most recently Dress For Success.

A native of Oaxaca, Mexico, Xochitl grew up in Los Angeles. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of San Diego and an MBA from Loyola Marymount University.
