A Blessing of Shoes for Family Promise SGV Children

It’s a fact: Children quickly outgrow shoes. But if they’re facing homelessness, parents may have to put all their income toward food or rent instead. Yet shoes are an important need—not just for children’s health and safety, but also for their self-esteem.

This Christmas, Family Promise SGV children were blessed with gift certificates for shoes by the women of the East Los Angeles-Montebello Business and Professional Women. The children now will be able to get new shoes when they’re needed in the coming year.

In addition, the Alhambra Rotary Club and New Gen San Gabriel Rotary have hosted shoe shopping days several times throughout 2015. These events allow FPSGV families to shop privately, accompanied by a Rotary member, prior to the public shopping hours at the Alhambra Payless store. It’s also a source of support and encouragement for graduate families, who may still be struggling to regain housing.

Organizations such as the Business and Professional Women and Rotary Clubs make it possible for Family Promise to address individualized and special needs for children and their families as we help them regain stable housing. We are extremely grateful for their support!
