Prevention
We help families facing a housing crisis stay safe and avoid homelessness through rental assistance, housing navigation, motel stays, and one-on-one case management.
Shelter
We provide safe, supportive shelter through temporary motel placements and our upcoming 48-bed interim housing program launching in Azusa in early 2027.
Stabilization
Once families are housed, we help them stay that way through financial coaching, employment support, tenancy education, and connections to community resources.
Our Mission
We are Family Promise of San Gabriel Valley, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families experiencing housing instability and homelessness find safety, stability, and a path forward.
We are part of a national network of more than 200 Family Promise affiliates working together to address and end family homelessness across the United States. Locally, we serve families throughout the San Gabriel Valley through a coordinated, community-based approach that combines housing-focused case management, flexible support services, and strong partnerships with local organizations.
Since 2010, we have supported hundreds of families in preventing homelessness, identifying safe housing alternatives during crisis, and rebuilding stability when housing loss occurs. Our work is grounded in dignity, respect, and the belief that every family deserves a safe place to call home.

Why We Do What We Do
Family homelessness is often hidden from view. Families may be staying in shelters, motels, cars, campgrounds, or temporarily doubled up with friends or relatives in overcrowded housing. While not always visible, the need is significant and continues to grow across our communities.
More than 2 million children experience homelessness in the United States each year. Families with children represent a significant share of people experiencing homelessness, particularly in sheltered systems where families seek temporary safety and support.
Economic instability also places millions of children at risk. About 1 in 7 children in the United States live in poverty, highlighting the ongoing challenges many families face in meeting basic needs like housing, food, and stability.
At the same time, the shortage of affordable housing makes recovery extremely difficult. In Los Angeles County, there are only about 27 affordable and available rental homes for every 100 extremely low-income renter households. This gap means that even families who are working or receiving support often struggle to secure stable housing.
These conditions mean that many families are only one unexpected expense away from losing their housing. Our work focuses on preventing that crisis whenever possible and responding with compassionate, housing-focused support when it occurs.

Our History
Family Promise of San Gabriel Valley was founded in 2009 by a group of dedicated community members responding to the growing crisis of family homelessness in the region. From the beginning, the vision was clear: create a collaborative, community-based response that helps families stay together and find stability during times of crisis.
The organization was established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, built a network of local partners, and opened a Day Center to provide families with a safe place for support, connection, and access to essential services.
Over time, Family Promise of San Gabriel Valley has grown to meet the changing needs of the community. Our programs now include prevention, diversion, shelter, and stabilization services, designed to support families at every stage of a housing crisis. Through strong partnerships with local government agencies, nonprofits, faith communities, businesses, and volunteers, we have helped hundreds of families regain stability and move toward long-term independence.
As housing instability continues to impact families across the region, we remain focused on practical, community-based solutions that not only respond to crisis but help prevent it. Our work continues to evolve with one consistent goal: ensuring every family has the opportunity to secure safe housing and build a more stable future.

From Uncertainty to Stability
When M.R., a single mother of two young children, took the leap to start her own business, she was betting on a better future for her family. But as any entrepreneur knows, that leap doesn't always land where you hope. As her business struggled to generate steady income, her savings dwindled month by month, until the fear of losing her family's home became all too real.
That's when M.R. found Family Promise's Rosemead Rental Assistance Program.
With rental assistance covering the immediate cost of housing, M.R. finally had something she hadn't felt in months: room to breathe. The constant weight of "how will I pay rent this month" lifted, and with it came the clarity to think beyond crisis mode. Instead of grabbing the first job offer out of desperation, she had the time and stability to pursue opportunities that could actually sustain her family long-term.
Our team of experts connected M.R. with education and job training resources to help her build toward lasting independence, not just temporary relief.
Today, M.R. is doing more than surviving; she's building. Her children have a stable home. She has a path forward. And her family has a foundation strong enough to hold the next chapter of their lives.
