On any given night in California, 25,000 families will be homeless and wondering where their next meal will come from or where they will be able to sleep that evening.

Families are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population. Over 40% of the U.S. homeless population are families with children. Children experiencing homelessness have increased health problems, increased mental problems, struggle in school, and have an estimated graduation rate below 25%.

For less than $1 a day, your contributions will allow us to provide shelter, food, and case management for our situationally-homeless families.

Matching Gifts Through Employer

Many employers offer programs to match their employees’ contributions to charitable organizations. You can double or even triple your gift to Family Promise of San Gabriel Valley by sending us your employer’s Matching Gift form to the attention of Executive Director, 1005 E. Las Tunas Dr. #525, San Gabriel, CA 91776 or scan it and email to director@familypromisesgv.org

IRA Charitable Rollovers

We all know that IRA’s are great tax-free vehicles to save money for retirement- until it is time to withdraw from them at age 70 1/2. Required minimum distributions (RMD) from IRAs are considered income and thus, are taxable at ordinary income rates. A RDM also has the potential of pushing you into a higher tax bracket if you receive other income. But did you know you could avoid such a shift and paying taxes on your RMD simply by designating your distribution as a charitable gift?

Thanks to the 2015 PATH (Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes) Act, taxpayers who are at least 70 ½ can make a direct transfer from their IRAs to charities like Family Promise of San Gabriel Valley – known as a qualified charitable distribution- without having to count it as taxable income or be taxed on the actual distribution. By taking advantage of the IRA charitable rollover option, you may transfer up to a total of $100,000 per year in qualified charitable distributions- a helpful tool if you have other income or do not itemize your deductions.
